President Michel Aoun was briefed on the media talks on the decision issued by the US Treasury Department and which included sanctions against Lebanese, including two MPs.
"This measure, which is repeated from time to time, contradicts previous American positions that confirm the commitment of Lebanon and its banking sector to the international agreements related to fighting money laundering and preventing the use of money in terrorist attacks or in other practices punishable by laws," the presidency media office said in a statement on Wednesday.
"Lebanon, which regrets the United States' resorting to such measures, especially in terms of targeting two elected representatives, will pursue the matter with the competent US authorities, to build a position accordingly," the statement said.
