Industry Minister Wael Abou Faour on Tuesday called on slaughterhouses in various Lebanese regions to comply with environmental, health, and food safety conditions and standards.
"Citizen have the full right to be provided with healthy food without safety hazards," the minister told a visiting delegation of butchers and cattle traders.
"There will no longer be any exceptions or warnings in this regard. After 15 days, the ministry will inspect abattoirs and issue decisions to close down non-compliant ones," he added, hoping that within the 15-day grace period, abattoir owners would carry out the required procedures to comply with the required food safety standards.
"We will provide good and committed slaughterhouses with the requirements of success and continuity; we will no longer accept the continuation of the work of illegal slaughterhouses," the Minister warned.
