The Maronite Bishops on Wednesday highlighted the necessity to fight corruption and cease the waste of public funds in order to conduct the sought reforms and benefit from the financial aids pledged by CEDRE conference.
"The Fathers have been following up on the local and international actions aimed to concretize CEDRE resolutions, especially the insistence of the international concerned sides on the necessity to carry out the required reforms as a condition for Lebanon to receive financial support," the Bishops said in a statement following their periodic meeting in Bkerki, under the chairmanship of Maronite Patriarch Beshara Rahi.
"However, these reforms cannot happen unless everybody works on ending waste and fighting corruption," they added.
On a different note, the Bishop hailed President Michel Aoun's speech delivered during the UN General Assembly in New York.
They also congratulated the President on the UN endorsement of establishing the Academy for Human Encounters and Dialogue in Lebanon.
