Israel’s Foreign Ministry has accused UN chief Antonio Guterres of “moral bankruptcy” after he said he was “outraged” by renewed Israeli air strikes in Gaza.

“We are outraged that you [Antonio Guterres] are the Secretary-General of the UN,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Oren Marmorstein wrote on X.

Marmorstein accused the UN chief of not mentioning the US proposals to extend phase one of the ceasefire. Hamas’s refusal to extend the first phase came as it remained committed to implementing the agreed deal in all its phases.

“Indeed, we are outraged by your moral bankruptcy,” the spokesperson told Guterres.
