The Lebanese Parliament held on Thursday morning the first session to elect a new president of the republic. The quorum was secured with 122 MPs, while MPs Salim Al-Sayegh and Sethrida Geagea were absent, and 4 other MPs could not attend the session.
After the end of the vote counting process, Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri announced the results as follows:
- Blank papers: 63
- Michel Moawad: 36
- Other names: 12 (10 of them carried the word "Lebanon", one "Mahsa Amini", and one "Rachid Karami's approach")
- Salim Eddeh: 11.
No second voting round was held due to a lack of quorum, and the session was adjourned. Then, Berri said, "Without a minimum consensus, the election of a president will be difficult, so when I sense consensus, I will immediately call for another parliamentary session."
