Caretaker Minister of Social Affairs Hector Hajjar discussed housing and displacement challenges in a press conference, noting that 93% of displaced residents returned to their villages post-ceasefire.
“However, about 100,000 housing units remain uninhabitable. Meanwhile, recent displacement from Syria to areas like Hermel and Baalbek requires urgent attention,” Hajjar said.
The Social Affairs also emphasized prioritizing Lebanese citizens' return and announced new support measures. “By December's third week, $100 will be disbursed to eligible individuals with updated disability cards. Efforts to update and issue new cards are ongoing,” Hajjar said, adding that “mobile medical clinics, in collaboration with the Red Cross, have been deployed to underserved areas, starting with Marjayoun, and will expand to Sidon, Jezzine, and other regions.”
Hajjar commended healthcare teams working under difficult conditions and affirmed the ministry’s commitment to reopening centers and enhancing health, psychological, and social services nationwide.
"Lebanon and its people deserve all efforts for a better future," Hajjar concluded.
