President Joseph Aoun affirmed that “the exclusive control of weapons will be achieved despite the challenges and obstacles,” noting that the Cabinet session held today will continue the process of adopting the anticipated decisions related to this matter.

In an interview with Al Arabiya, Aoun stated: “We are pressing ahead with the implementation of the commitments outlined in the presidential oath and the ministerial statement,” adding that the government is awaiting the Lebanese Army’s plan to consolidate all weapons under state authority, in order to discuss and approve it.

He further noted that implementing the American proposal requires guarantees from both the United States and France, as well as approval from Syria and Israel.

Aoun stressed that achieving the state’s exclusive authority over weapons does not infringe on Lebanon’s rights or sovereignty.
