Saddi reviews IMF governance report, discusses sector challenges
Energy Minister Joe Saddi held a meeting with key officials including Ogero Director General Ahmed Oweidat, Electricité du Liban Director General Kamal Hayek, Financial Institute Chair Lamia Mobeid, and team members Sabine Hatem and Ghayal Abi Khalil. They discussed the IMF report concerning the governance of state-owned institutions, focusing on updating regulatory frameworks, oversight, auditing, and development plans.

Saddi also received Australian Ambassador Andrew Barnes and briefed him on his strategic approach to the electricity and water sectors.

In separate statements to MTV, Saddi said they have received unconfirmed reports of sabotage at power plants and have asked the Public Prosecutor’s Office to investigate. He confirmed ongoing negotiations with Kuwait to purchase four fuel tankers, two of which are free, and stated that there are no issues with Iraqi oil contracts, which remain valid.

He added that the power plants are old and the electricity network needs maintenance, and that efforts are underway to attract Arab investors to support sector development.
