Prime Minister Nawaf Salam welcomed at the Grand Serail, US Envoy Thomas Barrack, accompanied by former Deputy US Envoy for the Middle East Morgan Ortagus, and US Ambassador to Lebanon Lisa Johnson.
Ambassador Barrack offered his condolences for the martyrdom of the Lebanese soldiers in the south last week, and he commended recent government decisions.
During the meeting, Premier Salam affirmed that "the decisions issued by the Cabinet were based on the supreme national interest," emphasizing "the necessity for the American side to fulfill its responsibility in pressuring Israel to cease hostilities, withdraw from the five occupied points, and release prisoners."
The Prime Minister also emphasized "the priority of supporting and enhancing the capabilities of the Lebanese Armed Forces, both financially and in terms of equipment, to enable them to perform their required tasks." In the same context, Salam emphasized "the importance of renewing UNIFIL's mandate, given its role in consolidating stability and supporting the army in extending state authority in the south."
On the other hand, the Prime Minister called for "announcing a clear international commitment to hold a conference to support reconstruction and economic recovery in Lebanon."
The discussion also addressed developments in Syria, with both sides stressing "the importance of preserving its unity and enhancing its stability."
