Minister of Public Works and Transport Fayez Rasamny held an expanded meeting at his office dedicated to the long-stalled project of rehabilitating and expanding Jounieh coastal highway.
The meeting brought together Council for Development and Reconstruction (CDR) Chairman Mohammad Qabbani with a delegation from the council, alongside Keserwan MPs Neemat Frem, Nada Boustani, Shawki Daccache, Saleh El-Khazen representing MP Farid El-Khazen, and lawyer Michel Hakim representing MP Selim El-Sayegh.
Jbeil MPs Simon Abi Ramia, Ziad Hawat, and Raed Berro also attended, in addition to Jbeil Union of Municipalities President Fadi Martinos and the mayors of Tabarja, Zouk Mosbeh, Zouk Mikael, Adma, and Ghazir.
Minister Rasamny stressed that the meeting aimed to “put the project back on track in coordination with the CDR, MPs, and concerned municipalities,” underlining the highway’s national and developmental importance and its role in alleviating the daily suffering of commuters along this vital corridor.
Moreover, Rasamny affirmed that funding was secured without obstacles, while a designated committee will resolve pending issues, particularly land expropriations, within two weeks, “in full compliance with legal frameworks that safeguard rights and ensure continuity.”
Linking the highway’s rehabilitation with the reactivation of Qlayaat Airport, Rasamny described both projects as economic lifelines for the region and Lebanon as a whole. Rasamny further pledged that “the suffocating traffic scenes recently witnessed on the coast will not be repeated once the project is completed.”
The Minister finally noted that while the cost figures will not be disclosed, “funds are available, tendering has been completed properly, and work will commence as soon as the committee finalizes its tasks.”
