President of the Republic Joseph Aoun welcomed at Baabda Palace, the World Bank Group (WBG) Executive Director, Abdulaziz Al Mul, at the head of a delegation of members of the WB's Board of Directors.
During the meeting, emphasis was made on "the depth of the partnership between Lebanon and the World Bank for nearly seventy years and the pivotal role the WB has played in supporting Lebanon throughout various difficult stages, from wars to economic and social crises."
The President of the Republic thanked the delegation for "the continuous support that the World Bank provides to Lebanon," and presented the progress achieved so far in terms of the ongoing reforms, particularly with regard to strengthening governance and cooperation with the International Monetary Fund to rebuild confidence in the country’s financial sector and attract investments.
President Aoun hailed "the World Bank's approach of linking funding to reforms, as it enhances accountability and achieves tangible results," affirming "Lebanon's commitment to implementing reforms, despite facing many challenges.”
President Aoun also pointed out that "Lebanon is nowadays focusing all its attention on reforming the judicial system because no reforms can be implemented without a strong and effective judicial system." He stressed "the importance of the World Bank remaining by Lebanon's side during this critical phase and continuing constructive cooperation to support the nation's recovery and sustainable growth."
Regarding relations with Syria, President Aoun said: "We want sound relations that serve the interests of both countries, because the stability of Syria directly affects the stability of Lebanon, and vice versa."
Regarding the situation in South Lebanon, the President of the Republic affirmed "Lebanon's commitment to the ceasefire agreement reached in November 2024 under the auspices of the United States and France. However, unfortunately, according to this agreement, Israel was supposed to withdraw completely and fully from the South sixty days after the agreement, but it still occupies five hills and is escalating its attacks on Lebanon amidst increasing daily threats against the country and its people."
On the other hand, President Aoun received this morning at Baabda palace the Prosecutor General of Mount Lebanon, Judge Sami Sader, at the head of a delegation of members of the Mount Lebanon Appeals Public Prosecution Office.
On the other hand, President Aoun made a phone call to the President of Ivory Coast, Alassane Ouattara, congratulating him on his re-election as head of state, and wishing him success in his national responsibilities.
