MP Fouad Makhzoumi announced that he hosted Dr. Sebastian Gorka, Deputy Assistant to the US President and Senior Director for Counterterrorism at the National Security Council, and Mr. John K. Hurley, Under Secretary of the US Treasury for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence, along with their delegation, during their visit to Beirut.

Makhzoumi said via X platform that the meeting was “rich and constructive,” reaffirming the shared commitment of Lebanon and the United States to peace, transparency, and sovereignty. Discussions focused on Lebanon’s reform roadmap, including restructuring the banking sector, stabilizing the currency, formalizing the economy, and curbing cash transactions as key steps to restore trust and state capacity.

He expressed appreciation to Dr. Gorka for his “clear and principled leadership” and to Mr. Hurley for the Treasury Department’s efforts to protect financial systems from corruption and illicit finance. Makhzoumi also acknowledged former U.S. President Donald Trump’s “historic vision and achievements” that, he said, “redefined regional stability and advanced peace through strength and shared values.”

Makhzoumi concluded that good governance, transparency, and reform remain “the foundation of Lebanon’s sovereignty and its path toward lasting peace.”
