French Ambassador to Lebanon, Hervé Magro, on Thursday visited the Baalbek region, beginning his tour at the Agricultural Village in the Baalbek plain, where he was received by Dr. Rami Lakkis, founder of the Lebanese Association for Development and Training (LADT). Lakkis presented an overview of the village’s facilities and the development services implemented by the association.
Magro continued his tour in Bodai, Shlifa, and Maqneh, inspecting projects carried out under the “Support and Development of Capable and Responsible Municipalities – SHABAKAT 2” program, funded by the French Development Agency (AFD) and the Crisis and Support Centre (CDCS), and implemented by Expertise France in partnership with LADT.
During the visit, Maqneh Mayor Mmdouh Al-Moqdad presented the ambassador with a shield of appreciation for France’s ongoing support to local development.
The visit concluded with the program’s closing ceremony at the Agricultural Village, attended by the ambassadors of Belgium and Serbia, along with local officials.
In his address, Lakkis praised France’s steadfast support during Lebanon’s crises, noting that the program helped municipalities better serve their communities despite persistent challenges in sanitation, waste management, and energy.
Ambassador Magro emphasized that the initiative reflects “deep cooperation between France and Lebanon,” noting that it supported 18 municipalities through training for more than 550 local representatives, and funded projects such as solar-powered street lighting, water network upgrades, and rehabilitation of public facilities.
The event concluded with documentary presentations and honorary tributes to the ambassador and Dr. Lakkis for their contributions to local development.
