Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri received at the Second Presidency headquarters in Ain el-Tineh, the Ecuadorian diplomat of Lebanese origin, Ivonne Abdel Baki, candidate for the post of UN Secretary-General, and wished her "success in attaining this important UN position at a crucial stage for Lebanon, which was a founding member of the United Nations."
Speaker Berri also received Chairman of the Banking Control Commission, Mazen Sweid, who came on a courtesy visit to extend holiday and New Year’s greetings.
The visit provided an opportunity to discuss the general situation and matters related to the commission's work and role.
The parliament speaker also met with Justice Minister, Adel Nassar, with whom he discussed the latest political developments and legislative affairs.
On the other hand, Speaker Berri cabled Grand Ayatollah Al-Sayyid Ali Al-Sistani, offering his deepest condolences on the passing of his brother, Ayatollah Sayyid Hadi al-Sistani.
