Information Minister Paul Morcos stressed that the core challenge in the age of artificial intelligence is no longer merely delivering information, but ensuring that accurate and trustworthy information reaches the public first. His remarks came during his participation in Web Summit Qatar 2026 in Doha, held in the presence of Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, senior officials, and international figures
Speaking at a main session titled "Democracy under Pressure," Morcos highlighted the rapid spread of misinformation on social media, noting that more than 70 percent of citizens rely on these platforms as their primary news source.
The Information also underlined the need to balance speed with accuracy, explaining that false news often spreads faster than verified information.
Furthermore, Morcos outlined Lebanon’s approach to countering digital misinformation, including training public media staff and establishing a specialized fact-checking team within the Ministry of Information.
He finally emphasized that rebuilding trust in government communication depends on transparency, credibility, and consistent delivery of verified information, particularly during crises.
