After months of keeping a low profile, Lebanese authorities have arrested content creator George Dib, better known on TikTok as “Dr Food,” who was convicted in absentia and sentenced to life imprisonment for drug trafficking and smuggling offenses.
According to sources obtained by MTV, the Halba Judicial Detachment, acting on instructions from the North Lebanon Appellate Public Prosecutor’s Office, arrested Dib at his home in northern Lebanon.
He is expected to be transferred to the Mount Lebanon Appellate Public Prosecutor’s Office to face proceedings in the drug trafficking case.
The arrest comes two years after Lebanese judicial authorities issued an arrest warrant in absentia against Dib on charges of “manufacturing, trafficking and smuggling drugs abroad.” At the time, the official National News Agency reported that sweets and food products manufactured at facilities linked to Dib had been seized at Beirut airport after being found to contain drugs. The products were reportedly prepared for shipment to a Gulf country.
Despite the arrest warrant and life sentence issued against him, Dib continued to post content on TikTok. Following reports of his conviction, he took to the platform on July 19 to deny the allegations, insisting that he was “innocent” and urging his followers “not to listen” to what was being circulated about him on social media.
Dib rose to prominence alongside his ex-wife, known online as Shorouk, a Canadian of Palestinian descent who has more than 15 million followers. The pair became known for their cooking and lifestyle content before separating after Shorouk accused him of domestic abuse.
On Saturday night, Shourouq held a highly publicized “divorce party” at a seaside resort, attended by thousands of her followers, sparking widespread reactions on social media.
