MTV has learned that Lebanese judicial authorities have ordered the release of George Dib, known as “Doctor Food,” in a case filed by his former wife, Shourouq, over alleged abuse. The court set a financial bail, which his lawyer paid several days ago.
However, the decision has not yet resulted in his release, as Dib is also facing charges in a drug trafficking case that has been referred to the Criminal Court. No decision has yet been issued to release him in that case, and he therefore remains in prison.
MTV has also learned that George Dib will be fully covered by the general amnesty law, as the alleged drug trafficking offense was committed before March 1, 2026. The offense has not been repeated, and there are no other cases pending against him, meaning that he fully meets the conditions for amnesty.
According to MTV sources, the Criminal Court is expected to schedule a hearing soon to hear his testimony. However, if the general amnesty law takes effect this week following a Constitutional Council decision, “Doctor Food” will be able to submit a request through his lawyer for his case to be reviewed by the Court of Cassation’s Public Prosecution. He would then be covered by the amnesty in the drug trafficking case and released.
