Watch: Nearly 25,000 Square Meters of Bird-killing Nets Seized!
The Internal Security Forces General Directorate – Public Relations Division issued the following statement:

As part of the ongoing efforts by the Internal Security Forces to combat illegal hunting, particularly the use of bird-killing nets set up along migration routes, which trap large numbers of birds and wipe out entire flocks, threatening some species with extinction and negatively affecting biodiversity, ecological balance and natural resources.

The North Investigation Unit of the Regional Gendarmerie Unit received information that individuals were setting up bird-killing nets in preparation for selling them in several scattered towns across the Akkar Plain.

In coordination with the Anti-Poaching Unit (APU), the MECSHAP center and the international organization CABS, a patrol from the unit managed to identify the locations where these nets had been set up.

Subsequently, patrols from the unit raided several agricultural properties, seizing approximately 165 bird-catching nets with a total area estimated at around 25,000 square meters, in addition to four bird-catching devices, a battery, three loudspeakers and electrical wires used to operate them. This brings the total area of nets removed in the operations in the Bekaa and North to approximately 63,000 square meters.

The seized items were handed over to the relevant unit in accordance with instructions from the competent judicial authorities.
