The Beirut Municipality said in a statement that, following instructions from Beirut Governor Judge Marwan Abboud, its slaughterhouse department conducted an inspection at 3 am at a slaughterhouse in the Wata al-Msaytbeh area, with support from the Beirut office of the Lebanese Army’s Intelligence Directorate and the Beirut Guard Regiment.
The inspection found that the Merhi slaughterhouse, owned by Hussein Hassan Hassan al-Abdullah and located on plot 2227 in the Msaytbeh cadastral area, was operating without a legal license or veterinary supervision. It also failed to meet health, hygiene and public safety standards, and was slaughtering and displaying livestock in violation of applicable regulations.
Following the violations, an official report was issued against the owner. Governor Abboud then issued Decision No. 851/B ordering the slaughterhouse to be closed and sealed with red wax. The Beirut Municipality’s slaughterhouse department carried out the closure with support from the Beirut Guard Regiment.
The Beirut Municipality stressed that it would continue its inspection campaigns and take the necessary legal and administrative measures against violators, particularly businesses that pose risks to public health and food safety, violate hygiene and public safety standards, or encroach on public property. It reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing applicable laws and regulations, protecting public health and ensuring compliance with approved health standards.
