Pope Francis Resumes His Activity after a Day’s Rest Due to Fever
Pope Francis today (Saturday) resumed his activities after a day of rest due to a fever, as announced by the Vatican; He will participate in several private meetings, according to the French Press Agency.

The Vatican added that the 86-year-old pope, who was hospitalized with pneumonia about two months ago, has a full meeting schedule.

And (Friday), the Pope’s spokesman, Matteo Bruni, announced that he had canceled his meetings “because of a fever” and general fatigue.

The Pope held eight meetings (Thursday), and he spoke especially to nuns, the Italian Episcopal Conference and a group of young people from the Scholas Ocurentes educational network.

The Pope receives his interlocutors from associations, clerics and heads of state in the morning in the Vatican in official sessions during which he delivers sermons, while the afternoon is devoted to work and his private meetings.

And the Pope (Sunday) will preside over the Pentecost Mass and the “Regina Kylie” prayer (Rejoice, Queen of Heaven) in the Vatican.

And (Monday) he will meet Italian President Sergio Mattarella.

The health of Jorge Bergoglio, who was elected in 2013, fuels constant speculation about the possibility of his relinquishment of office and his succession.

Francis has said several times that he would consider resigning – like his predecessor, Benedict XVI, who died in December – if his health deteriorated, but he recently confirmed that this possibility is not currently on the table.

In July 2021, the Bishop of Rome was hospitalized for ten days to undergo colon surgery. And he talked about “traces” that remained after anesthesia, which makes him rule out knee surgery until now.

In an interview in January, Jorge Bergoglio said again that he suffers from pockets forming on the surface of his digestive system.

The pope is constantly monitored by a team of caregivers both in the Vatican and during his trips abroad.

This is a necessary precaution as he has such a burdensome medical history. At the age of twenty-one, he suffered from acute pleurisy, and surgeons removed part of his right lung.

At the end of March, Pope Francis was hospitalized in Rome with pneumonia. He left the medical center after three days of antibiotic treatment.
