A video has widely circulated on social media showing the President of Mexico facing an embarrassing incident while taking photos with citizens in the street.
According to details of the incident, President Claudia Sheinbaum was speaking with citizens in one of the historic neighborhoods of Mexico City and taking photos with them when a man, who appeared to be intoxicated, approached her from behind, placed his hand on her shoulder, and kissed her. She quickly reacted when he attempted to touch her body, gently pushing his hands away before a government official intervened.
The video being shared shows the man leaning in to kiss the president and touch her with his hands, but she gently pushed him away while maintaining a stiff smile and turning to face him. She was heard partially saying, “Don’t worry.”
Sheinbaum, like her predecessor and political mentor former president Andrés Manuel López Obrador, tries to remain close to the people, often walking through crowds, taking selfies with citizens, and shaking hands with them.
Her security personnel did not immediately appear in the close-up shot of the video.
