Seven firefighters in New York City have been injured after a car caught fire and exploded in the Bronx.

According to a statement released by the Fire Department, crews had responded to reports of burning vehicles and trash. Upon arrival, they found cars and piles of trash on fire before a sudden explosion occurred.

According to the statement, the incident resulted in the injuries of seven firefighters, five of whom sustained burns to their hands and faces. Three of the injured have been rushed to the hospital for treatment.

The department noted that investigations are still underway to determine the cause of the explosion.
