As floods sweep across Mozambique, crocodiles have begun appearing inside flooded cities, causing at least three deaths.
In the city of Xai-Xai, the capital of Gaza Province and one of the hardest-hit areas in the south of the country, authorities have warned residents of rising risks of crocodile attacks as flooding expands and evacuation operations continue to higher ground.
Heavy rains and severe flooding that have struck parts of southern Africa over the past month have killed more than 100 people in Mozambique, South Africa, and Zimbabwe, in addition to destroying thousands of homes and causing major damage to infrastructure, including roads, bridges, schools, and health facilities.
Authorities said that of the 13 flood-related deaths recorded in Mozambique, three were caused by crocodile attacks. It is worth noting that the Limpopo River originates in South Africa and flows through Mozambique before emptying into the Indian Ocean.
