The Lebanese Army Command – Directorate of Guidance issued the following statement:
On October 7, 2026, while carrying out exceptional measures to monitor and control the Lebanese-Syrian border, an armed clash broke out in the mountainous outskirts of the town of Arsal between Army personnel and smugglers. No injuries were reported.
The Army unit foiled the smuggling operation and seized five pickup trucks heading toward Lebanese territory, loaded with around five tons of copper and tin, in addition to a large quantity of tobacco.
The unit also arrested a Lebanese national, identified as (A.H.), for his involvement in the smuggling operation.
The seized goods were handed over to the relevant authorities, and an investigation into the detainee was launched under the supervision of the competent judicial authorities.
