A nonprofit organization specializing in publishing leaked information announced Wednesday that it had released data on more than 41,000 employees of the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
The organization, said it obtained data from a group of hackers known as Department of Peace. The group developed a tool called Icepick, which enables detailed searches for employees’ names, offices and duties.
Activist Maya Arson Crimew said in a statement issued by the organization that this data is enormous, both in terms of size and impact.
Emma Best, the organization’s co-founder, described the leak as extraordinary.
The organization said the data reveals the identities of officials overseeing covert operations and undercover activities, as well as the government’s campaign to pursue whistleblowers and key employees responsible for the US Department of Homeland Security’s forced transportation and deportation programs, which are steadily expanding.
The campaign has led to the detention and deportation of thousands of undocumented immigrants, and US citizens have also been affected by these measures.
