Berri warns against ending UNIFIL mandate
Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri received German Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development Reem Alabali-Radovan and her accompanying delegation at the Second Presidency headquarters in Ain el-Tineh, in the presence of German Ambassador to Lebanon Thomas Zahneisen and Berri’s media adviser Ali Hamdan.

Discussions focused on developments in Lebanon and the region, particularly Israel’s continued attacks on Lebanon, the systematic destruction of southern villages and towns, and its failure to comply with international resolutions, foremost among them UN Security Council Resolution 1701, as well as the 2024 agreements and the more recent framework agreement, both reached under US auspices.

Berri warned of the dangers of terminating the mandate of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) before Resolution 1701 is fully implemented and Israel completely withdraws from Lebanese territory.

He also stressed the need to strengthen Lebanon’s partnership with Germany and the European Union and maintain international support for the Lebanese Army.

Separately, Berri received the head of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) delegation in Lebanon, Agnès Dhur.

The meeting reviewed the ICRC’s activities and humanitarian programs in Lebanon, particularly those concerning displaced persons and Lebanese prisoners held by Israeli army.
