Dispute at the Masnaa border crossing

The Lebanese Customs Administration issued the following statement:

Today, Monday, November 2, 2026, a dispute occurred at the Masnaa border crossing with Syria between a senior customs inspector at the Masnaa Customs Office and a customs clearance agent after the latter refused to pay the fees demanded of him.

The dispute escalated into a verbal altercation, followed by an attempt by the agent to assault the customs employee, leading to a physical fight. Immediate measures were taken to suspend the customs clearance agent from work.

The case was referred to the Military Public Prosecutor’s Office, which has launched an investigation to establish the circumstances of the incident and determine responsibility, ahead of taking the appropriate legal measures.

The Customs Administration stresses that any objections to customs valuations and duties must be raised through the proper legal channels. It also reiterates that assaults on its employees while performing their duties are unacceptable and that it will pursue this case before the competent courts.
