Residents of the small village of Innaarsuit in Greenland woke up to a terrifying sight — a massive iceberg dangerously approaching their homes.

The enormous iceberg had been moving steadily toward the village over several consecutive days, prompting local authorities to issue urgent warnings to residents.

Officials warned that waves caused by the melting iceberg could damage buildings near the shore, and in the worst-case scenario, completely flood low-lying or fragile homes.

Innaarsuit is located on a small island in western Greenland and relies heavily on fishing as the main pillar of its economy.

Meanwhile, the government issued strict instructions forbidding people from approaching the iceberg, whether by boat or even while walking on land.

Authorities also advised the elderly and people with special needs to exercise extreme caution while moving around, and recommended that families avoid going out together.

As a result of these warnings, the local fish factory and the village’s small store were temporarily closed. Strangely, however, some residents showed little fear and instead expressed feelings of excitement and awe at witnessing such a rare sight.

This isn’t the first time the village has experienced such an event. In 2018, a similarly sized iceberg reached the village port — so massive that it weighed 11 tons and could be clearly seen in satellite images.
