The British embassy in Manama has taken the “precautionary measure” of temporarily withdrawing some of its staff and their dependents, the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office says.

It was not immediately clear how many people were pulled from the site. The embassy will continue to operate, it said on social media.

The UK government has advised against all but essential travel to Bahrain, which has sustained a series of major strikes from Iran.
