MTV’s website learned that the Lebanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs was informed, via the Syrian embassy in Lebanon, of the decision to suspend the work of the Lebanese-Syrian Higher Council and to restrict all types of correspondence between the two countries to official diplomatic channels.
It is worth noting that the council was established in 1991 as part of a cooperation agreement between the two countries, signed by Lebanese President Elias Hrawi and Syrian President Hafez al-Assad.
This decision is considered a “gift” from Syria to Lebanon, ahead of the visit today by Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Shaibani, in response to an invitation from Lebanese Foreign Minister Youssef Raggi.
