Nassar: The current considerations are not a reason to postpone the elections
Adel Nassar affirmed that he is acting legally, and that constitutional mandates should not be questioned each time. They must remain fixed and indisputable, with exceptional circumstances that could delay them clearly defined, including security conditions.

In an interview with "Voice of Lebanon", Nassar noted that “the current considerations are not a reason to postpone the elections. The reality is that the Council of Ministers met, and a ministerial committee reviewed the law and identified gaps, which fall under the legislative authority, not the executive branch.”

He explained that the ministerial committee concluded that filling these gaps is the responsibility of Parliament. However, Parliament has not taken a position on these provisions. Consequently, a draft law was sent to take the initiative, as the existing gaps make it impossible for the government to implement the law. It has no authority to resolve issues that fall under Parliament’s jurisdiction. Since no response came from Parliament, the question was referred to the Legislative and Consultation Authority on how to hold elections under this law.

Nassar highlighted two options. Either to suspend voting for citizens abroad or allow them to vote according to the general rule established in the law. The Legislative Authority’s response was not surprising. It emphasized the duty to ensure elections. As long as District 16 is not defined, voting will follow the general rule, meaning voting for all 128 MPs.

He also stressed that he has not heard of any international desire to block the elections, emphasizing that this is an internal matter, constitutionally binding, and aligned with the principles of democracy and respect for constitutional mandates.
