Food Prices Reach Highest Level in Nearly Four Years
Food Importers’ Syndicate President Hani Bohsali said global food prices reached their highest level in nearly four years in September, citing reported increases of 6.1% in sugar, 5.1% in cereals and 0.9% in vegetable oils.

Bohsali reassured Lebanese consumers that such fluctuations were normal and did not necessarily signal a global food crisis.

However, he warned that a potentially strong El Niño weather pattern in 2026–2027 and geopolitical developments around the Strait of Hormuz affecting fertilizer production and costs could sustain upward pressure on food prices in the coming months.
