Lebanese Army Commander General Rodolph Haykal has hinted that compulsory military service could be reinstated in the near future.
Speaking to MTV on the sidelines of the Lebanese Army Marathon, held under the slogan “Together, We Keep Going,” Haykal said: “God willing, we’ll bring back military service, even if some people won’t like it.” He added that it would help strengthen national unity and bring the Lebanese closer together.
On security, Haykal stressed that the army’s fight against terrorism, drugs, illegal weapons, and smuggling continues unabated along the borders and throughout Lebanon.
He also urged citizens to play their part by reporting any suspicious activity, noting that the army remains on high alert as it works to ensure the country’s safety.
