Israeli army spokesperson Ella Waweya wrote on X:
Under the understandings reached in 2024, which Israel and Lebanon relied on until the launch of Operation “Lion’s Roar,” the Lebanese army has been charged of removing Hezbollah’s weapons and military infrastructure from southern Lebanon. However, it failed to carry out this mission as required, allowing the organization to continue consolidating its military presence, strengthening its armaments and establishing military infrastructure in the area.
Even during Operation “Homeland Shield,” conducted by the Lebanese army in 2025, a significant gap persisted between statements and the reality on the ground. The operation failed to dismantle the organization’s military capabilities or prevent its continued activities and growing military strength.
In December 2025, the Lebanese army has been asked, through the US-led mechanism, to deal with a military facility in the southern Lebanese area of Kafra that Hezbollah was using to store weapons. Later, the Lebanese army announced that it had taken the necessary measures regarding the facility.
However, several months after that announcement, it became clear that Hezbollah had continued operating inside the facility and that its members had moved weapons and military equipment out of it in order to retain them and preserve the organization’s military capabilities. The facility therefore remained available for Hezbollah’s military use, despite the Lebanese army’s announcement that it had taken the necessary measures.
The footage shows Hezbollah members loading weapons that had been stored inside the facility onto a truck in an attempt to remove them from the site and retain them in the organization’s military arsenal. After detecting this activity, Israeli army carried out an airstrike on the truck, destroying it along with the weapons removed from the facility and loaded onto it.
The footage shows that despite the Lebanese army’s announcement that it had dealt with the facility, Hezbollah members continued operating there and attempted to remove weapons and military equipment to retain them.
The Israeli army’s Military Intelligence Directorate has identified cases in which individuals within the Lebanese army coordinated with Hezbollah regarding activities to enforce the security arrangements. Such coordination contributed to attempts to prevent, delay or obstruct these activities, allowing Hezbollah to prepare in advance to evacuate weapons and move them out of the area.
The Lebanese army is responsible for ensuring the full and precise implementation of all tasks assigned to it. The Israeli army stresses that it expects the Lebanese army to take firmer and more effective action to fulfill its responsibilities and prevent the presence of weapons and military infrastructure belonging to the Hezbollah terrorist organization in southern Lebanon.
The Israeli army continues to monitor Hezbollah’s attempts to rebuild its military capabilities and strengthen its arsenal, and will not allow any violation that threatens the security of Israel and its citizens.
Hezbollah dragged Lebanon and its people into war in favor of Iran during Operation “Lion’s Roar,” launching thousands of rockets, including from areas south of the Litani River, where the presence of any armed personnel, military facilities or weapons not belonging to the Lebanese government or the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) is prohibited.
