Following the Strong Republic bloc’s announcement of a press conference tomorrow to address corruption complaints, MTV's website has learned that MPs Ghassan Hasbani, Georges Okais, Antoine Habchi and Razi Hajj have filed two complaints.
The first targets MP Gebran Bassil over two public contracts for the construction of the Zouk and Jiyeh power plants. The contracts were allegedly amended in Bassil’s own handwriting, altering their terms without the revisions being submitted to the Court of Accounts. This ultimately led to a final arbitration ruling in France ordering the Lebanese state to pay nearly €100 million to the companies that carried out the projects.
The second complaint targets MP Cesar Abi Khalil over the granting of exclusive rights to a Russian company to operate public oil-storage facilities for 20 years, without a law authorizing the arrangement, a public tender or a set price. The contract file has also disappeared from all state records. The agreement was signed while Abi Khalil was serving as energy minister in a government operating in a caretaker capacity.
