Menassa meets Jordan’s King Abdullah II, discuss Lebanon’s security and military cooperation
Lebanese National Defense Minister Michel Menassa met with Jordan’s King Abdullah II in Amman, in the presence of Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, to discuss developments in Lebanon and ways to strengthen bilateral military cooperation.

During the meeting, Menassa conveyed the condolences of President Joseph Aoun and the Lebanese government over the recent tragic incident in Jordan.

Talks focused on the situation in Lebanon, particularly in the south. King Abdullah reaffirmed Jordan’s support for efforts to preserve stability, facilitate the implementation of the framework agreement, and identify forces responsible for verification operations in pilot areas.

The Jordanian king also stressed the importance of supporting the Lebanese Army, building on initiatives launched with President Aoun and French President Emmanuel Macron in France as part of efforts to support Lebanon’s military.

Menassa is visiting Jordan at the head of a military delegation participating in the Special Operations Forces Exhibition and Conference (SOFEX 2026), held in Aqaba with the participation of official and military delegations from around the world.

On the sidelines of the event, Menassa met with Jordanian Prime Minister and Defense Minister Jafar Hassan. He again offered condolences over the recent incident, and the two discussed the latest developments.

Menassa also held talks with Jordanian Armed Forces Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Maj. Gen. Majdi Al-Harasis, who hosted a dinner in his honor.

The discussions covered ways to strengthen military cooperation between Lebanon and Jordan, particularly through training and the exchange of expertise. They also addressed arrangements following the expiration of UNIFIL’s mandate and efforts to maintain security and stability in southern Lebanon.
