Cautious optimism in Pakistan
Pakistan's army spokesperson, Ahmad Sharif Chaudhry, said the country was “cautiously optimistic” about its efforts to mediate between Iran and the United States.

He said Army Chief Asim Munir’s two visits to Tehran this month reflected a degree of positivity in the talks. He also noted that some parties were seeking to derail the process, without identifying them.

Chaudhry stressed that the mutual defense agreement signed by Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Turkey does not prevent other parties, including Iran, from joining. He said any country that shares a common vision of collective deterrence and regional peace is “very welcome.”

He explained that the deployment of additional Pakistani troops to Saudi Arabia would depend on developments and decisions by the political leadership of both countries, reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to defending the Kingdom and the holy sites.
