Will Israel Withdraw from Lebanon if Eisenkot Forms the Government?

Eyes are on Tel Aviv following Gadi Eisenkot's appointment to form the Israeli government, as Lebanon watches for developments along its northern border and the situation on the ground amid Israel's occupation of southern Lebanon.

In this context, a report by Israeli radio station Kol Hai said that Eisenkot is planning to withdraw from Lebanon even before successfully forming a government, having begun negotiations and arrangements for what is known as the ‘day after’ on the northern front.

The report added that Eisenkot is holding talks with foreign parties regarding an Israeli withdrawal from Lebanon.

The radio station's political correspondent said: Even before forming a government, Eisenkot is already planning what will happen next. Perhaps this explains why Arab parties are supporting him from outside the government, because they understand what Eisenkot will offer them on all fronts. If a withdrawal from Lebanon takes place, it would merely pave the way for what comes next, such as withdrawals from Gaza and Syria, and the systematic and deliberate dismantling of settlement outposts in the West Bank.
