MP Qassem Hashem warned that Lebanon remains exposed to Israeli threats and escalation, stressing that regional and international developments could have serious repercussions for the country.
In remarks to Sawt Kel Lebnen, Hashem called for national dialogue free from foreign interference and political calculations to address contentious issues, particularly the defense strategy, Hezbollah’s weapons, and the role of the Lebanese Army.
He condemned continued Israeli attacks and the expansion of occupied areas in southern Lebanon, noting that residents face killings, bombardment, and restrictions on accessing their agricultural land and harvesting olives.
Regarding UNIFIL’s future, the MP warned that failure to renew its mandate could create a security vacuum in southern Lebanon that Israel might exploit to expand its occupation. He urged Arab countries to pressure the US administration to secure an extension of the force’s mandate for at least one or two years.
Hashem also stressed the need to strengthen support for the Lebanese Army, describing it as a key guarantor of national unity and stability.
