Watch: Hotel demolished in an instant
Cameras captured the dramatic moment a hotel in New Jersey collapsed after 36 years of operation, in a precisely executed demolition that marked the end of an era for the iconic landmark.

Hundreds gathered along the highway in the town of Mahwah to witness the complete fall of the 22-story glass-and-steel structure, located on the border of New Jersey and New York.

The hotel, which opened in October 1987, was once a popular venue for weddings and guests, known for its gleaming glass façade and stunning mountain views. It was permanently closed in December 2023.

Although developers initially announced plans to convert the site into two warehouses, the website Patch later reported that the owners are now considering other options.

The demolition was carried out in coordination with several agencies, including the state's Department of Labor. Sarah Warren, from West Milford, commented after witnessing the event: "It was incredible. I used to drive by it all the time, and now it’s strange that it’s just gone."

The hotel also featured office floors, and there had once been a plan to build adjacent office buildings. However, developer James D’Agostino later called the idea an “adventure” that didn’t pan out, and the hotel struggled to find tenants until its closure.
