A 6.4-magnitude earthquake struck the Atacama region in northern Chile, causing no injuries but cutting off power to more than 20,000 people, according to authorities.
The quake occurred 54 kilometers south of the city of Diego de Almagro, according to the National Seismological Center.
Local media shared images showing shattered windows and parts of collapsed walls in the city of Copiapó, located 800 kilometers north of the capital, Santiago.
Miguel Ortiz, Deputy Director of Emergency at the National Disaster Prevention Agency, said: “Following the earthquake, power was cut off for 23,000 subscribers in the Atacama region,” noting that minor landslides were also reported.
