Authorities in Gaza have accused Israel of turning aid centers into “deadly traps” and using food as a weapon of war.
According to the Palestinian news agency WAFA, 11 people were killed and several others wounded in Israeli airstrikes targeting multiple areas in the Gaza Strip, including gunfire near an aid distribution center west of Rafah.
WAFA quoted medical sources as saying that five people, including two young girls, were killed in an Israeli drone strike on displaced persons’ tents in Al-Mawasi, Khan Younis. Another girl died from injuries sustained in an earlier Israeli strike on Khan Younis.
In Rafah, four civilians were killed and 70 others wounded by Israeli fire near an aid center in the western part of the city. Elsewhere, one person was killed and others wounded by Israeli gunfire near a distribution point at the Netzarim Corridor in central Gaza.
The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) had warned on Saturday that the current aid distribution model in Gaza is ineffective and "amounts to inviting people to their deaths."
