More than 18 people were killed and around 48 others injured after a bus they were riding plunged into a ravine in the Andes Mountains in Peru, according to an official.
Clifor Coribaco, the Health Director of the Junín region, said in a press conference that the bus veered off the road and fell down a slope in the province of Palca, Junín. Authorities are still investigating the cause of the accident.
Media reports stated that the bus overturned near a river and was carrying more than 60 passengers when it went off course on a narrow and winding road.
The bus had completed about two-thirds of its journey from the capital, Lima, to its destination, the city of La Merced. Emergency teams were dispatched to the scene.
