Fifteen people have been killed in Sri Lanka after a bus carrying local tourists fell off a cliff approximately 300 meters high, according to police.
The accident occurred in the mountainous area of Ella, about 130 kilometers east of the capital, and also left 16 others injured who were on board the bus.
The group was returning from a holiday in the cool highlands when the bus collided with another vehicle, broke through metal barriers, and plunged off the cliff.
This is the worst such accident since May, when 23 passengers died in a similar incident in the Kotmale area. Sri Lanka’s winding roads are considered among the most dangerous in the world, with the country, home to 22 million people, recording around 3,000 road fatalities annually.
