Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that Washington has proposed holding the first direct negotiations between Ukraine and Russia in six months, coinciding with the arrival of diplomats in Miami for a new round of talks aimed at ending the war.
The Ukrainian president said, “As I understand it, they proposed this format: Ukraine, the U.S., Russia,” adding that Europeans could also be present, and that it would be “logical to hold a similar joint meeting… after we understand the potential outcomes of the meeting that has already taken place.”
For his part, Russian President Vladimir Putin’s aide commented, “There is no seriousness in the initiative to hold a trilateral meeting between Russia, the United States, and Ukraine.”
