UN humanitarian organizations have indicated that around 21 million Sudanese are suffering from severe food shortages, and more than 20 million are in urgent need of medical care, according to the DPA news agency.
Jens Laerke, spokesperson for the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), also confirmed that civilians are paying the daily price of a war they did not choose. UN statistics show that about 13.6 million Sudanese have been forced to leave their homes, including more than 4.3 million across borders, placing a heavy burden on neighboring countries.
Nearly 5,000 children have been displaced daily since the conflict began in April 2023, according to UNICEF.
Ricardo Peiris, UNICEF representative, said: “Many have been displaced multiple times, and violence follows them wherever they seek refuge.”
