A senior Iranian official said that Tehran has warned regional countries that it would strike U.S. military bases in those countries if it were attacked by the United States, following threats from President Donald Trump to intervene amid anti-government protests across Iran.
The official also told the agency that direct communications between Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff have been suspended, following Trump’s threats of intervention amid the ongoing protests in Iran.
He added that the U.S. threats undermine diplomatic efforts, and that any potential meetings between the two officials to seek a diplomatic resolution to the decades-long nuclear dispute have been canceled.
