The Associated Press quoted the pontiff as saying: "On behalf of Middle Eastern Christians and all men and women of goodwill, I appeal to those responsible for this conflict to cease fire so that channels of dialogue may reopen. Violence can never lead to the justice, stability, and peace that people are waiting for."
