The US’ Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) has issued new sanctions on “Iran’s illicit oil transportation infrastructure”, including two dozen individuals, companies and vessels.

In a statement, it said these were operating within the network of Iranian oil shipping magnate Mohammad Hossein Shamkhani, the son of a top adviser to Iran’s former supreme leader Ali Khamenei.

Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent said the Trump administration would continue to “cut off Iran’s illicit smuggling and terror proxy networks.”
