Qatar’s PM has spoken about efforts “aimed at achieving peace and enhancing security and stability in the region” in a call with Iran’s FM.
Sheikh Mohammad “stressed that freedom of navigation is a well-established principle that does not accept compromise, and that closing the Strait of Hormuz or using it as a pressure card would only lead to deepening the crisis and exposing the vital interests of the region’s countries to danger,” a Qatari ministry statement said.
The statement warned of “potential negative repercussions this could have on global energy and food supplies, as well as on the stability of markets and supply chains”.
